STEM Middle School

Welcome Back Letter

Here is the welcome back letter that was mailed home this week:

Dearborn Public Schools Science, Technology, Engineering, and

Mathematics Middle School

August 13, 2018

Dear Parent/Guardian:

On behalf of the STEM staff, we welcome you and your child to a new school year.  We assure you that your child is in good hands here at STEM Middle School.  The staff and administration will strive to provide your child with a quality education and a safe environment.

The first day of school is a half day, Monday, August 27, 2018. The doors will open at 7:15 AM and students are to be in their A-Square (A/A) at 7:25 AM.  All students will be dismissed at 10:30 AM.  On full days we dismiss at 2:15 PM with the same start times.

  • Students should not bring anything on the first day of school as there will be no lockers.
  • All students need to check the STEM blog, https://stem.dearbornschools.org/, on August 24th to know which A/A to report to on the first day.
  • Schedules will be handed out in A/A.
  • After the first day, doors to the school will be open at 7:05 AM each morning for students on the lunch program only; they will need to proceed directly to the cafeteria to eat breakfast.
  • All other students may enter the building through door #20 no earlier than 7:15 AM.

Please note that as a school of choice, parents have agreed to dropping off and picking up their children from school.  We understand this can be a hardship and we encourage you to collaborate with other families to car pool to and from school.  Students should not be dropped off any earlier than 7:05 AM for students on the lunch program and who will eat breakfast at the school and  no earlier than 7:15 AM for all others.   Students should be picked up no later than 2:25 PM, 10 minutes after official dismissal.

If a parent is unable to pick up their child, please contact the office. Students should report to the office if their ride is not here by 2:25 PM.  There is no supervision before or after school hours and students may not stay unless in a supervised club or activity that they are a member of; the safety of your children is our highest priority.  Kids’ Club will be available after school for students for a nominal fee.  Please call 313-827-8350 for more information.

We would like to remind all families that the Open House for STEM is on a different day than the other middle schools.  We will hold our Open House on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at 6 PM.  We encourage you to visit the STEM PTA blog at parents.dearbornschools.org/stem for ways to get involved and become engrained in the culture of our STEM family.

Parent Connect will be available a few weeks after school begins.  Parent Connect is a web-based program that you will be able to access through the Dearborn Public Schools Web site.  Parent Connect is a way for you to check your child’s progress in school.  The modules that will be available for your viewing will be attendance, schedules, assignments, report card marks, unofficial transcripts, grade point averages, and standardized test scores.  ‘Hotlinks’ are set up so that you can email your child’s teachers with questions or concerns.  Your time invested in school is guaranteed to pay off in the future.

Visit our web site, https://stem.dearbornschools.org/, for up to date information.  If you have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us at 313-827- 4800.  We are looking forward to a wonderful school year.

Sincerely,

Winifred L. Green, Ed.D., Principal                                      Oussama Baydoun, Assistant Principal
